DESOTO, Texas — DeSoto ISD will ban backpacks from all secondary campuses during the week before spring break, the district announced.

No backpacks will be allowed on those campuses starting March 3 through March 7, the district said in a social media post. March 7 is an early release day.

"DeSoto ISD thanks its school community in advance for its cooperation and support as the district continues to work with stakeholders to keep students and staff safe," the school district said in a post.

In a statement, the district said the change in backpack policy is a routine practice implemented a year ago. There are no recent events or activities that triggered the change, the district said.

DeSoto ISD's spring break begins March 10, according to the district's calendar.
